A Letter to the Copycat Designer: Have You Run Out of Ideas?

A Letter to the Copycat Designer: Have You Run Out of Ideas?

Warning: This post is not suitable for those with a good mood, seriousness, or optimism!)

To everyone who claims to be a designer, and to everyone who has copied, stolen, or imitated the work and efforts of others. Whether this person is me or another designer, what hurts me hurts others too…

Oh, miserable and sad copycat…

Have you run out of ideas? Or did you never have any to begin with?

Are you a weak and unstable person, building your “success” on the experiences of others?

Or is it financial desperation that has driven you to do everything far from the ethics of the profession?

Maybe you are simply in the wrong place… and this is what I truly believe!

Your place is far away from your poor computer screen, which endures your strange behaviors. Your website, where you stole every word, color, or idea, or even your business card that says “Designer”… whatever it is.

Dear, you are a copycat… just a copycat.

What I wrote above is my gift to you, and only to you.

If you like it, format it as you wish, add your name to it, print it out, and hang it on your wall. Right in front of your computer, filled with the efforts and sweat of other designers, or above your depressing bed. Reflect on it every morning and evening, hoping it might change something in you.

Maybe then, we can all move one step forward “with you”…

Otherwise, we’ll leave you alone in your dark place, and we’ll move forward alone.

We are moving forward… and you will always stay behind, chasing after the crumbs we leave behind.

Stay a copycat as you are…

And we’ll stay innovators as we are.
